DIY Pallet Headboard
I am absolutely blown away by this DIY Pallet Headboard from Stylizimo that I found on Twig & Thistle. I have never found pallet's to be anything but a pain to dispose of once you were done with, but with this styling it almost makes me wish I had forgone the nail head trim and used the pallet that I left sitting in my parent's driveway since November!

BHLDN Decor
I posted about BHLDN back in March when they launched a wedding boutique website featuring bridesmaids dresses, party dresses, shoes, jewelry and accessories. BHLDN operates under the Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie and now they've launched a decor line that includes wedding signage, decorations, photo backdrops and favors. Items may not be practical to be especially on a wedding budget but do serve to inspire!

JCP End of The Year Teachers Gift!
I'm helping out a friend by designing and printing these customized note cards for end of the year teacher's gifts from her daughter's class. My friend is the classroom mom and charged with conceptualizing the gift, having the kids add a creative touch to it and producing the final gift for the teacher's of the Green Room at the JCP in downtown Manhattan. So far, we've printed the teacher's names on the front and then each child's name on the back. Each student has now been commissioned to create something on the back for each teacher. In the end they cards will be boxed up and presented to the teachers on the last day of school. I'll post the finished product when we get the cards back (decorated) from the kids!

DIY Headboard - Applying the Nailhead Trim
I have long wished for a headboard to pull my bedroom together, one that is the perfect combination of indulgent luxe fabric paired with the masculine effect of nailhead trim! Once I decided on and purchased the rich grey velvet from West Elm I then picked up a roll of nailhead trim to bring it all together.
First off, nailhead trim and I are not friends.
While I LOVE my finished product and it does eliminate having to nail in each individual nail, I had a horrible time getting the trim to conform to the curves of my headboard (not a problem if you have a rectangle headboard) and cut up my hands terribly
(just call me Edward Scissorhands).
I purchased a rubber mallet at the Home Depot to apply my trim as you cannot use a regular hammer since the metal head will destroy the delicate nailhead. Also, keep in mind that you should gently pounding in the nailheads (life lesson learned, I lost quite a few).
Two days later, and quite a few revisions... I was almost there!
I covered the back of the headboard with industrial strength velcro
to adhere the headboard the wall.
The finished product! It's been a week and the headboard is still up
(velcro holding strong) and showing no signs of coming down!

DIY Headboard - Step 1: Upholstering
I've been swamped with events for VH1 Save The Music and have been lax on my posts, but I did manage to finish my headboard project last week! Instructions on how I upholstered my headboard can be found below and tomorrow I'll share with you how to apply nailhead trim.
My brother-in-law is a very talented contractor who owns Level Home Improvements
and cut the headboard design out for me!
I purchased a mattress topper (like the egg crates we used to get in college) from
Bed Bath & Beyond for the cushioning.
Cut the excess padding around the shape of the headboard.
Then wrapped my West Elm upholstery fabric around the padding,
using a staple gun to fasten it to the board.
Here's the finished product before applying the nailhead trim -
will send final steps tomorrow!
